Mikko said that Nokia doesn't have a 'Mr. Blog' that takes care of conversation in the social media space...
I thought "understandable"... so I asked what Nokia was planning to do in that direction, and to be honest I didn't get a 'deep' answer from Mikko. I was referring to their marketing strategy, online communication, etc.
@jsaarikko: Community dialogue = joining the conversation in the social media space... Listen to what end-users, talk with prosumers (producers+consumers)... being present as a brand in this digital landscape (not just within own networks like OVI but also within the blogosphere for example)...
@iglu303
About womworld.com, S60 blogs etc. (thanks to @saarab to remind that :) ) yep there's something, but the feeling is that there something missing (and I'm not the only one feeling it #comment-47588" target="_new">http://www.andreavascellari.com/blog/?p=609#comment-47588 )
@jussi just 'Mikko Terho' ... do you know the guy?
@jussi@constantine seem to be good guys! What it's difficult to hear it's Nokia's voice
BTW do you want me to ask Mikko Terho some questions? There's a panel discussion going on...
@vascellari: let's see if we manage to do some solution for this; I did spoke with our social media guys - do you really know I work for Nokia or do I only say that ;)
I also would like to have hats: when I'm speaking more like Nokia-person and when I speak as myself... (in here, all views I say are my personal ones as you well know!)
i would love to have everyone at nokia blog, but i know that isn't going to happen. i would want to be the person who writes about all the cool stuff everyone is working on, but having that much knowledge is dangerous.
@whatleydude Nokia's voice as a brand. It doesn't have to be 'one' person... could also be a digital department taking care of Nokia's online communication strategy etc.
I think Nokia has plenty of voices, as mentioned by @iglu303 and @saarab, but that's the problem - they're voiceS, rather than a voice. I'd personally like to see some unity in the various outlets.
To be honest, I'm seeing the various outlets come together a bit more lately, but it's still not a centralized voice.
I thought there was an effort at Nokia, as part of the rebranding/remarketing effort, to bring all of the disparate online voices together under one roof. The problem being that there are so many voices from so many parts of Nokia that it like pushing an elephant with a few ants.
Its hard to make a transistion to something like that without diminshing the voices as they currently exist. I think that Charlie and the team at Conversations would probably be the best singular voice funnel, but somehow make that as a more aggregrate area for the other voices to be heard.
re: blogging in Nokia. having everyone blog is just going to generate too much noise. not everyone needs to be sharing everything he's working on. the key is to identify who has something useful/interesting/thought-provoking etc to say. have representatives/spokespersons for various groups/projects.
as for external blogging, i suppose it helps to have a "brand" that is Nokia's official voice. but I think many employees blog because they have their own opinions about things and not necessarily in agreement with the official voice. i think both are needed and should be made distinct from each other.
@myrtti Heh, yes written Finglish is not so nice. Particularly when you have to read it as part of your daily work, especially when you are readin technical documents, trying to figure out a problem...
Written Finglish is really bad. It is hard as it can be specific, but hard to follow.
Spoken Finglish is great. It is straight and to the point.
That probably is hard to understand, but thats how it seems to me.
I'll see if I can get a written Finglish example...
@whatleydude wrote, "So do you mean - someone who is the digital face of Nokia?" My persona feeling is that Nokia doesn't participate very openly in the social media space. They haven't yet opted for their own "scoblizer". Apple and Google is beating Nokia in the blogosphere back and forth. It might be a good idea for the mobile giant to become more participative. If they are then it's not very visible. What is your advice? How should it be done? Nokia isn't a person but who could give the company a face? Should there be many faces? One for each phone or service, perhaps?
@all. Nokia is collective in the sense there will never be one face (even if the external communications is carefully controlled). I think it is healthy.
The same approach is seen in the internal structure. There are overlaps between teams, which makes them compete. If someone makes a "mistake", someone else is ready to offer a solution.

So do you mean - someone who is the digital face of Nokia?
Like - one person?
1 year, 1 month ago by whatleydude
nokia is too large to have one digital person, but i agree there needs to be someone who everyone knows.

it's nothing personal, I just hate almost all the "foreign" accents, and most of all I hate the "accent" some of my fellow Finns have.

@whatleydude Nokia doesn't have one person that is the digital face of the company. It has an extremely intelligent AI running on an N95
1 year, 1 month ago by bogart
@myrtti I'd disagree with you highly! As a (supposed) native English speaker I like the Finglish accent.
Its very easy to understand (at least most of the Finnish people I have spoken with.
I have a great image (drawn by Nokia employees) somewhere at home which depicts Nokia as an underwater eco-system. I must try and find it.
It describes what everyone is saying in the thread perfectly.

I also think the idea of having strong leaders somehow clashes with the idea of collective production, swarms, etc.
